New data has tracked the performances of Yorkshire town and city centres post-lockdown, revealing the places which are thriving and those that are struggling for shoppers. A High Streets Recovery Tracker on the Centre for Cities website has ranked a host of UK towns and cities to explore how they are performing since Boris Johnson eased lockdown restrictions. The data allowed Yorkshire Live to compare footfall in the city and town centres of Barnsley, Bradford, Doncaster, Huddersfield , Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield and York – and they revealed some interesting results.

The city-by-city overall index looks at everyone who was in the city or centre at any time of the day, compared to a pre-lockdown baseline of From this, it was clear to see that Doncaster is thriving post-lockdown with a rate of on August 11 – the last available date that the figures go up to. Other town and city centres seemingly performing well are Bradford with 89, Barnsley with 87, Wakefield with 84 and Huddersfield with However, York’s score was 76, Sheffield’s was just 56 and Leeds came out lowest with 53, suggesting less people are returning to Leeds city centre post-lockdown.

The data also looks at where people are coming from, and for last week, it showed that in York 67 per cent are venturing into the city centre from outside York itself. However, the city was only attracting 29 per cent of people from the suburbs – the lowest figure of any Yorkshire city. The data also showed that Leeds is struggling to draw in shoppers from suburbs with just 43 per cent of people from outside the city centre venturing in to shop at the likes of Trinity.

The national average for city centre shoppers from the surburbs stood at 45 per cent for that week. What’s On.

He also said the publication of the article had been very distressing for the family. The publication expressed its condolences to the complainant and his family, and apologised for any distress caused. She had spoken to the journalist, who had asked whether she could provide any photographs of her daughter and grandchildren.

The newspaper said that the photographs had been published in good faith with the intention of helping raise awareness of the fundraising effort; modern families were complicated and it had no reason to believe that the person who provided the photographs was not in a position to consent to their publication.

It is a time we also use to assess the challenges that lie ahead and explore what more we can achieve together. Fittingly this was our platform for launching our prospectus for a Humber Industrial Strategy: recognising that although there are some tremendous opportunities ahead for the Humber, there are also underlying vulnerabilities in our economy.

We have embraced a new industry, offshore wind, and become a leading centre for it. We have welcomed investment from multinational businesses in a diverse range of sectors, expansion from SMEs and seen many more new businesses start up and grow. Our skills levels have improved, unemployment is substantially lower, and our economy has become more integrated — and therefore more competitive — since the tolls on the Humber Bridge were reduced.

Regeneration is taking place across our region. The Humber now has a stronger track record of delivery and our reputation is deservedly improved. However, continuing that momentum will be hard with uncertainty over Brexit, steel and in the medium term other energy-intensive industries. We must ensure our economy continues to adapt to secure its long-term sustainability.
